Welcome to the website of the Glenelg Marching Unit, one of the premier band programs in the state of Maryland and the East Coast. For over 30 years, this group, consisting of the symphonic band, jazz band, marching band, dance team, and silks squad, has received hundreds of awards and first place finishes in state and national competitions.

Jazz Concert Featuring Musicians from Freiburg, Germany

On April 13, 2012, Glenelg High School will have a special concert featuring the the Freiburger Schüler Jazzorchester, a Jazz ensemble from Freiburg, Germany, which will be touring Maryland from April 9-15. Directed by Herbert Schiffels, the Freiburger Schüler Jazzorchester has hosted many of Glenelg Jazz Ensemble's European tours over the years. The German students will be staying with host families in the Glenelg area, and will be visiting Washington, DC and Baltimore, as well as attending classes with their hosts at Glenelg High School. To honor their visit, Glenelg High School will hold a special concert, featuring the Freiburger Schüler Jazzorchester as well as the Glenelg High School Jazz Ensemble. Please plan to attend the concert and welcome our European guests: Friday, April 13, 2012, 7:00pm at Glenelg High School, 14025 Burntwoods Road, Glenelg, MD, 21737. The concert is free of charge!

Festival of Music, Myrtle Beach, SC

Once again the Bands and Marching Unit performed at a superior level during the Myrtle Beach, SC competitions! Schools from all over the east coast participated in the national Festivals of Music and it was a resounding success for GHS! The band, jazz band and parade all took first place in their divisions with superior ratings. In addition the band and jazz band won the best overall bands in the festival regardless of division. Our fine dance and silk teams both received superior ratings with outstanding performances. The saxophone section won best section at the festival ,while Graham Jacobson won best soloist of the festival.
