Musical Groups and Auxiliary Units for a one-of-a-kind Experience
Symphonic Band
The Glenelg High School Symphonic Band is a musical ensemble of approximately 80 students chosen by audition. For 34 consecutive years, this ensemble has received straight superior ratings at District Adjudications, performing music of the highest level of difficulty. Musical selections have included such pieces as Overture to Candide, Incantation and Dance, Russian Sailor's Dance as well as Robert W. Smith's Inferno and The Ascension from The Divine Comedy. National competitions have taken the Glenelg Band to music festivals from Canada to Florida, and each year the band returns with nothing less than superior, first place, and grand championship awards.
Jazz Band
The Glenelg Jazz Ensemble has received more than 60 awards over the last 15 years, including the highest rating at the Maryland State Jazz Festival. Consistently known for its high energy and professionalism, the group has been selected seven times to perform at such prestigious international festivals as the Montreux International Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland; the North Sea Jazz Festival in Den Haag, Holland; the Jazz à Vienne in Lyon, France; and the World Jazz Festival in Freiburg, Germany.
Dance Team
The Glenelg High School Dance Team is an exceptionally talented and successful group of 9th through 12th grade students. Started in the early 1970's as part of the Glenelg Marching Unit Front, this group has evolved from a school-spirit based organization to a top-level competitive dance team. Our dancers are proud to claim 31 MAPDA Maryland State Championship Titles, 6 Atlantic Cheer & Dance Company National Titles, and 3 Coastal Dance National Titles! Additionally, the Team has achieved over 29 straight-years of Superior Ratings and First Place Awards at national-level music festivals!
Color Guard
The Color Guard, Glenelg High School's dynamic flag and movement squad, is an integral part of the half-time tradition at Glenelg High School football and basketball games. The squad is known for its impressive visual presentations and original choreography.
