"A Commitment to Excellence" |

The Glenelg High School Dance Drill Team is an exceptionally talented and successful group of 9th through 12th grade students. Started in the early 1970’s as part of the Glenelg Marching Unit Front, this group has evolved from a school-spirit based organization to a top-level competitive dance team. Our dancers are proud to claim 21 MAPDA Maryland State Titles, 9 ACDC/Coastal National Titles, and over 20 years of Superior Ratings (and 1st Place awards) at a variety of national level music festivals! The members work hard year-round to achieve the highest degree of excellence possible. The typical year starts with auditions in April/May, followed by attending a Universal Dance Association dance camp in early July. Preparations for football performances start in late August, and competition season is in full swing by the beginning of November! State, regional, and national level contests occur in January, February and March; and the year comes to a thrilling close as the Team joins the Marching Unit on the annual Spring Trip! The level of commitment required by the members is great, but the level of success they achieve makes it worth every second of their time! The dancers develop not only dance skills, but also real-world skills and friendships that last a lifetime! We are pleased to report that our members have gone on to dance on the college level with the University of Maryland, Towson University, University of Dayton, University of Delaware, St. Mary’s College, Loyola University, and East Carolina University. They have also become Redskinettes, Baltimore Raven’s Dancers and staff members for Eastern Dance Association.
Attention incoming 8th graders, and current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders! Auditions will soon be held for the 2008-2009 team and we will be looking for more talented dancers! Mark your calendars for April 29, 30, and May 1—the dates that the team will hold audition clinics from 3:30-6:30 in the Glenelg High School Dance Room. On these dates the team will teach potential members the dance skills and routines they will need to know for the Formal Audition which will take place on Friday, May 2. Check out the Team Constitution, Calendar, Line Score Sheet and other important audition files below! Contact Ms. Newsome for additional information at 410-313-7621, or by email at tnewsome@hcpss.org. Huge CONGRATULATIONS to the 2007-2008 Team who danced their way to 3 Coastal Battle at the Capitol national titles and 3 MAPDA Maryland State Championship Titles in Varsity/Division 1 Jazz, High Kick, and Prop! The award winning “Pirates of the Caribbean” High Kick routine, “Special Two” Jazz routine, and our version of a cirque Prop routine were inspired performances! Our “Twilight Zone” Pom routine earned 4th place. Adding the ‘icing on the cake’—Stevie and Dani (team captains) won awards for their performances in all four routines. A successful competitive season, indeed! Goodbye, Seniors! It’s time once again to watch our beloved senior dancers graduate and go off into their exciting futures. Stevie and Dani, we will miss you! Please know that each of you has made a contribution that will affect the team forever and we will carry a bit of you onto the floor whenever we compete. You always have a special place in our hearts and we hope that you will keep in touch! Keep dancing and may you be blessed with every happiness on earth! Hey Alumni! You are always welcome to visit us at practice, and encouraged to support the team at performances! We love to have you share our team’s accomplishments! You will always be considered a teammate! Please drop an email every now and then and let us know what is going on in your lives!
