Glenelg High School Dance-Drill Team
The Glenelg High School Dance Drill Team is an exceptionally talented and successful group of 9th through 12th grade students. Started in the early 1970's as part of the Glenelg Marching Unit Front, this group has evolved from a school-spirit based organization to a top-level competitive dance team. Our dancers are proud to claim 24 MAPDA Maryland State Titles, 6 Atlantic Cheer & Dance Company National Titles, and 3 Coastal Dance National Titles! Additionally, the Team has achieved over 23 straight-years of Superior Ratings and First Place Awards at national-level music festivals!
The members work hard year-round to achieve the highest degree of excellence possible. The typical year starts with auditions in April, followed by attending a Universal Dance Association dance camp in early July. Preparations for football performances start in late August, and competition season is in full swing by the beginning of November! State, regional, and national level contests occur in January, February and March; and the year comes to a thrilling close as the Team joins the Marching Unit on the annual Spring Trip! The level of commitment required by the members is great, but the level of success they achieve makes it worth every second of their time! The dancers develop not only dance skills, but also real-world skills and friendships that last a lifetime! We are pleased to report that our members have gone on to dance on the college level with the University of Maryland, Towson University, University of Dayton, University of Delaware, St. Mary's College, Loyola University, and East Carolina University. They have also become Redskinettes, Baltimore Raven's Dancers and staff members for the Eastern Dance Association!
